We didn't want to leave

WE DIDN’T WANT TO LEAVE

We’ve just had the experience of our lives and we want to tell you about it. In these blog pages, you will find recollections of the seventeen girls from Sacred Heart, Church Park who were part of the Student Exchange Program, 2011 to Maria Ward Gymnasium in Augsburg, Deutschland from the 15th of May to the 28th of May.

The trip was unforgettable for the whole lot because it always tested our limits and threw new activities at us everyday. Rock-climbing, trekking, strawberry picking, cycling for miles, etc. are not what you do on a daily basis in India. It’s fairly impossible to sum up all we did, for everyday we’d be up at six and back at the earliest by seven, but we’ve done a fair job.

From beautiful Churches to the heavenly BMW factory, from Adventure zone to limitless Shopping malls, Castles to crazy Amusement parks, Germany presented everything to us and we indulged to our heart’s content. You’ll find more on these inside.

But nothing beats coming home after a tiring day to a warm home with lovely people taking care of you. Of all our individual experiences, each unique and amazing in their own way, a common thread runs through: the hospitality of our host families. Even though the language was a slight problem, our families never  failed to make us feel at home. Our exchange partners were like sisters and made sure we were having fun. Goes to show that at the end of the day, we’re all human- irrespective of boundaries, and the bonds we formed, though across long distances, are still strong.

Did I mention that we were let alone to roam about Munich and Augsburg to shop till we dropped with money from our own pockets? I didn’t? Well, we had a blast. Being punctual is definitely not our forte. We were constantly on our toes not to miss the tram, or the bus or even our flight. While having our fun, we also had to balance out doing our project on Christianity in Germany. We’d like to say we did our best and I think we did a pretty good job.

On the whole, this trip has made us more responsible, mature and disciplined. Many thanks to Miss. Swarna, our teacher in charge who made sure we were safe and comfortable and at the same time, was loads of fun. Thank you, Goethe Institute, Chennai for this unforgettable trip.

Danke schon!
